We CI users need to celebrate every new hearing accomplishment, don't we? Well, I made a solo round trip from Orlando to Dallas yesterday, even changed planes twice. When uncertain, I verified what I thought I heard over the PA systems by asking a nearby person, "Did they just say that . . ." so the answer would be either yes or no. People didn't seem to mind at all. This flying day without my husband was, for me, reclaiming the ground lost in those dark days of functional deafness. 'Course, it would have been more fun to have had a partner with which to share the journey.

Hello Sheila,
Can you please supply a little more information on Cued Speech. I'm severely deaf & a possible candidate for a CI. Regardless of the outcome Cued speech sounds (no pun intended) like something my husband & I should learn anyway. I'm new to all this. Thanks, Carol
I love this post! My son Drew was born in September 2006 with profound hearing loss. I have gone through quite an emotional roller coaster with this, as all Mom's do. One of my fears has been how he will be able to do things on his own. I love this post about flying!
We're hoping to have him implanted in June. I can't wait for him to start his hearing journey.
Wishing you well...Drew's Mom
